Go Help the Economy! The Annual Holiday Market is Open in Downtown DC!

Today, as I was shamelessly  hustling concierges at upscale hotels for business by dropping off business cards and talking them up, I stumbled upon the annual downtown holiday market on F Street, NW, between 7th & 8th Sts., NW,  just in front of the entrance to the National Portrait Gallery.  I have to tell you that, despite living here for yonks, I didn’t even know that this existed.  Why?  I must confess: I live in the wilds of Northern Virginia and never go downtown to shop.  So, we will call today’s discovery serendipitous.  Obviously, and due to the fact that this shopping opportunity will only be there until December 23rd, I hustled home to do a piece for DC Like a Local.

The Holiday Market is a terrific place for both gifts and individualized souvenirs.  There were some gifts I did cast an eye upon at one stand operated by Mary Belcher.  She does watercolors.  I didn’t buy anything because my walls are chock full, but I liked her stuff.  There are a lot of different artists—most notably painters and jewelry.  Food is at either end and could have been a bit better, but there are restaurants all around the area.

Much better than a shopping mall!  The Holiday Market is open noon to 8:00pm every day until December 23rd.  Go hustle on over and spend your money and help the economy—or at least a few artists.

As for me, all I want for Christmas is a little tour guide business from one of those concierges!
